Standard 7: Engage professional with colleagues, parents/carers and the community Focus: Meet professional ethics and responsibilities 7.1.1 Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession.
Throughout my practicum, demonstrated the key principles from the code of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession. This shows I am meeting standard 7.1.1. The evidence I have collected to show this includes mentor feedback and the code of conduct.
Throughout my practicum experience I conducted myself in a professional manner in accordance with the NSW Department of Education (2016) Code of Conduct at all time. The code of ethics states that as a teacher I am responsible for maintaining professional relationships, working collaboratively with colleagues and maintain and developing professional practices. I maintained my professional relationship with students through informal conversations, which allowed me to build a rapport with them and understand their individual needs. I maintained my professional relationship with colleagues through professional conversations and collaboration. I engaged in many professional conversations with my mentor teacher about my own teaching practice. This allowed me to refine my own skills and allowed me to learn so much about teaching and student learning. My mentor teacher was able to pass on her own knowledge to me which I could then apply to my own teaching to improve. I engaged in collaboration meetings which included all Stage 1 teachers, the numeracy leader and the literacy leader. This experience involved planning lesson sequences together, sharing ideas, and sharing own experiences during reflection on past weeks. This was a valuable experience, as I was able to gain more insight and knowledge into how a range of students learn and different strategies that each teacher has. This showed me the importance of collaboration and working professionally with other teachers to continue to better my own teaching practice.
Mentor feedback shows that I demonstrated my ability to abide by the codes of ethics and conduct while of my professional experience. This has allowed me to develop and maintain a range of professional relationships with a number of members in the school community. Mentor feedback demonstrates that this experience has allowed me to understand student’s backgrounds and individual needs.
