Standard 4: Create and maintain supportive and safe earning environments Focus: Manage Classroom Activities 4.2.1Demonstrate the capacity to organise classroom activities and provide clear instructions
Throughout my practicum, I was able to organise the classroom and deliver clear instructions. This demonstrates that I am meeting standard 4.2.1. The evidence I have collected to show this includes classroom photos, lesson plans, screenshots from lesson PowerPoints and mentor feedback. During my practicum experience I was responsible for planning a variety of lessons, and one aspect of this planning process involved the organisation of the classroom. This involved deciding where the students would be working during each part of the lesson and how they would be grouped. During my placement, I had students working in groups which were based on their ability. This allowed me to set differentiated learning goals for each group and allowed me to differentiate how I would individually work with each group. I also had students in mixed ability groups, so they could work together to help each other with their learning. Group work allowed students to work collaboratively and was also beneficial with the sharing of resources. I was also responsible for organising and creating appropriate resources for the lesson. This involved creating worksheets, recording sheets, PowerPoint slides and collecting the necessary equipment for lessons.
During the introduction of my lessons, I would explain the learning intention of the lesson to students so they knew how they could succeed. Mentor feedback shows that I was able to deliver clear instructions to students so they could understand the learning intention and what was expected of them during the lesson. Mentor feedback shows that during my practicum I was able to organise classroom activities effectively, through preparing necessary resources, organising groups and delivering clear instructions.
My practicum experience taught me the importance of being organised in all aspects of the classroom. By being organised I was able to create a productive learning environment for students. I also learnt the importance of delivering clear instructions, especially when students are learning a completely unfamiliar topic. Throughout my practicum I was able to organise the classroom in a variety of ways which was suitable for each activity, which allowed me to demonstrate standard 4.2.1.
Standard 4.2.1 Evidence
These photos show my lesson organisation, which involves ensuring students are given the appropriate resources for lessons.
Some of the worksheets which were created for mathematic lessons.
Students were placed into groups for different activities during lessons. These groups were included on lesson plans and were shown to students through the use of PowerPoints for some activities.
Mentor feedback demonstrates that I clearly explained my instructions and expectations to students at the start of the lesson. It shows that I was able to organise the classroom and prepare the necessary resources to help students achieve the learning intention of the lesson.
